“You sure you don’t wanna come now?”
“I’m positive. You both’ve been doing fine without me,
right?”
“You know I can’t stay with him alone there all the
time!!”
“You scared of him?”
“C’mon Emelia, you can’t keep on acting this way with
him. He’s going to be your husband!!”
“And I’ve told you several times already, he isn’t!! I don’t
care what you or any other person thinks!!! I’m not
going to marry him!!!”
Sofia sighed. She just didn’t know what else to do.
Maybe she’ll get over her tantrums and come around.
What worried her most was the sudden attraction she
was developing for Nataniel.
“Emelia, please!!!”
“No sis, I’m not coming. And if you’ll excuse me, I have
a phone call to make.”
Nataniel walked home slowly. His mind was clouded
with the thoughts of Sofia. The sounds of the beach and
seagulls cawing above filtered down to him, and he
sighed. Why was he feeling this way about her? He
really had to keep his emotions in check about the girl.
But she was so lovely, so beautiful. He just couldn’t get
her out of her mind lately. The ring on her finger still
bothered him though. She still hadn’t mentioned
anything about her husband. How come? If not for that,
he would have damned the consequences and just gone
ahead and declared his feelings to her. Besides they
were almost the same age, she just maybe a year older
than he was. There was nothing wrong with that. He
walked up to the house and was about to climb the
stone stairs to the door when he heard his name being
yelled.
“Nataniel!!! Nate!!”
He turned and saw Leah running up to him. Something
in the tone of her voice and the way she was running
caught his attention. Something was wrong. Getting
closer, he noticed the tears streaming down her face.
He ran down the stairs and she ran into his arms and
wept.
“Leah!!! What’s wrong? Why are you crying?!!!” he
asked alarmed.
Leah could only stutter “Ana….Anastasja….she…
she’s….”
Nataniel’s heart lurched. He had just left the girls about
three hours ago.
“What happened to her?” he asked, his heart banging in
his chest.
“She…she’s had an accident! Surfing!!! We can’t find
her!!!” Leah wailed.
Nataniel didn’t wait to hear the rest of her blabber. He
immediately dashed across to the beach, Leah
following closely behind.
